A Message from Michele Jordan, VP of Members Services
Greetings! Am I on fire for ASTD or what? I’m am just returning from the 2010 ASTD International Conference and Expo(ICE) where I gained so much from the sessions and the incredible L&D professionals I met. I also had the pleasure to participate in the Chapter Leader Day, where ASTD leaders from chapters all across the nation and abroad had the opportunity to share best practices which each other!
Did I mention I’m on fire?! Now, it’s time for a reality check. Our team is busy prioritizing all of these new ideas to determine which areas to focus on for the remainder of this term. Balancing new strategic ideas focusing on growing our membership and supporting our volunteers with the tactical or operational ones that “keep the organization running” is always a challenging balancing act. In the meantime, while we’re busy prioritizing, I’d like call your attention to the following upcoming events:
Volunteer Recognition: Do you believe in magic?
To the numerous and dedicated chapter volunteers, from 2009 through today, you are APPRECIATED! During the conference, we’ll also have a special recognition event to celebrate you – our incredible volunteers! Brad Barton, one of the conference keynote speakers will also dazzle us with a few special magic tricks that he has up his sleeve. This event will be held on Tuesday, October 19th. Please RSVP to the ASTD office. This DEFINITELY will be one celebration NOT to miss!
New Member Orientation
The ASTD-Cascadia regional conference has an exciting theme this year – PLAY!!! If you are planning to attend the conference and have recently joined ASTD-Cascadia within the last 6 months or so, I invite you to attend our “New Members Orientation” session. It will be held from 8:30-9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20th. Please RSVP to the ASTD office. You’ll meet chapter leaders and learn first-hand what ASTD-Cascadia is all about!
I’m truly excited about the chapter! I have learned so much from this opportunity to serve with such incredible and talented people who all share my passion for training! It has and continues to be a truly rewarding experience. I encourage all of you to get involved! You will be glad that you did!
