A Message from the VP of Membership
Hello, I’m Angela Watson, your VP of Membership for 2008-2009. I’m thrilled to be able to “give back” by serving on the board of this wonderful organization, and here’s why:
Initially, I joined ASTD-Cascadia as a way to explore whether a career in training and development was a good fit, and to meet real, live people who were already doing the work. After just one or two programs, I was more excited than ever about the T&D field, and felt fortunate to have access to such top-notch professionals. By attending the programs and events and getting involved as a volunteer, I’ve met some amazing people, found a job that I love, and learned many new things. But even more importantly, I’ve learned to see things differently, through the eyes of my colleagues.
I truly believe that getting involved with your local professional organization is the best thing you can do for your career, no matter what stage you may be at currently. No amount of reading and education can substitute for the ideas and excitement that are exchanged when you connect with other professionals. And I believe that those of us in the T&D field in Oregon and SW Washington are extremely lucky to have such a strong local ASTD chapter available to help make those connections possible.
As the VP of Membership, it is my goal to make sure that you – our members and prospective members – are getting what you need from the Cascadia chapter, because your satisfaction is so crucial to our continued growth. In the next few months, you will be seeing announcements for the 2008 Membership Survey and upcoming General Membership Meetings, and I hope you will participate in these and share your thoughts about ways the chapter can better serve you. In the meantime, please feel free to send me your suggestions via the email address below.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and let’s talk soon!
