A Message from the VP of HR
Greetings and salutations from your Vixen of Volunteers (aka VP of HR)! Next month, Kerri Nussbaum and I wrap up our first chapter Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) study group, and it has been a blast! We have gotten to know six fantastic chapter members and have enjoyed every minute of it. It’s a wonderful feeling to watch your peers grow in confidence and prepare to take the exam that will designate them as ‘cream of the crop’ workplace learning and performance (WLP) professionals.
This study group was the perfect opportunity for Kerri and me to give back to our professional community, which is one of the ‘value pillars’ of the ASTD-Cascadia Chapter. When folks join a professional organization such as ours, they are typically seeking to network, develop their skills, strengthen their business, and to find ways to help other like-minded professionals. Well, seek and ye shall find!
What are some ways you can give back? Well, let me count the ways:
- When you achieve your CPLP designation (and I KNOW you will!), you can become involved in facilitating future study groups.
- If you enjoy the possibilities found in communicating and networking online, you can offer to monitor and respond to postings on our Social Learning Special Interest Group (SIG) site.
- If you are savvy with words and enjoy sharing your thoughts with others, you can contribute to our BlogCascadia. You can even do this in your jammies!
- If you are a master of logistics coordination or love to help with functions like registration, we can use your talents on one of our Programs committees, like Series and Forums or the monthly programs.
- Do you get jazzed at the cool new things happening in the eLearning world? Consider volunteering for our eLearning SIG.
- Are you a consultant and just itching to get involved? Our Consultants’ SIG can certainly use your time and expertise.
These are just a few of the ways you can get involved and give back to the industry that is all about helping people to maximize their potential. Whether you have a role in mind or have questions about opportunities, I would love to hear from you at trainerlady@earthlink.net. Get involved and you’ll discover the true meaning of ‘return on investment!’
