Becoming a consultant
By Christine Martell | November 22, 2007
Harold Jarche wrote an article for e-Learn magazine called So You Want to Be an E-learning Consultant…. It’s a great overview of considerations you might take to become any kind of consultant.
One of the things about the article that really stands out for me is the chart of the types of consulting you might be called to do, and the relative value for that work in the marketplace. It really shows how contribution to the business drivers of the org are worth way more than simple delivery of training. You can click on the thumbnail to see it large enough to read.
Harold’s blog is also worth exploring. He often writes about informal learning, personal learning environments, and use of technology. He’s also a really nice guy, I had the opportunity to meet him at the Brandon Hall Innovations in Learning Conference earlier this fall. He was warm and welcoming, which I really appreciated since I didn’t know many people there at all.
