PowerPoint - Love it or hate it or both?
By Kevin Jones | September 22, 2007
Everyone has their opinion of PowerPoint. To some it is just another one of those ‘hip’ names with an extra capital letter in the middle. To others it is their life blood of communication (read Intel & Microsoft and…). And still yet to others it is a joke (honestly, I wish I had thought of this one first, but I am just not that funny).
And yet there is another group. Those who use it for good. Those who know how to harness the Power of the Point, of the bullet, of the “wipe right” text. It is possible to take a product loved and hated by some and make it beloved by all. To do this, you need to create something that is centered around PowerPoint and yet the content will have nothing to do with PowerPoint. Enter Ignite. Some know it by another name, Pecha Kucha. Either way it has made its way to Portland as Ignite Portland. Here is the premise: Give a presentation with 20 slides which only last for 20 seconds each - strict. To see how it works, watch this video. Usually, they are geeky topics. But that is OK, you can get past that.
The first meeting of Ignite Portland is on October 25th. Try it out. Get some good ideas about how to use (alias) PP correctly. In fact, share your wisdom and show others how to use .ppt correctly. Either way, it should be entertaining.

I hadn’t seen this one. It has some really good tips more effective Powerpoint. The translucent white blocks over the photographs didn’t work well for my eye, but it is so much better than most things you see. Thanks for the link Alex!
